About

The Walking Bear Singers are a respected southern style powwow drum group based in the New England area, carrying forward traditions deeply rooted in Native culture. Originating in 1988, the group was formed with the purpose of bringing the drum and the voices of the southern plains to communities across the Northeast. They specialize in singing songs from the Ponca, Kiowa, Omaha, Pawnee, and Osage nations, honoring the teachings and traditions of these tribes through their music. Over the years, the Walking Bear Singers have become well-known for their commitment to preserving and sharing the southern style of powwow singing, offering an authentic and meaningful presence at gatherings and cultural events throughout the region.
